SAN FRANCISCO, US - THE jury in the Trevor Graham case said on Wednesday it had reached a verdict on one of three counts against the former elite athletics coach but was deadlocked on two others.
Graham, the former coach of Olympians Marion Jones, Tim Montgomery and Justin Gatlin, is charged with lying to federal agents investigating the BALCO doping scandal.
Jurors did not indicate the verdict, but said they had reached a decision on the charge that Graham lied when he told investigators in 2004 his last contact with Angel Heredia was a phone call in 1997.
They said they were still deadlocked on two others that involved his relationship with Heredia.
Heredia, a former Mexican athlete, testified he sold performance-enhancing drugs to Graham and athletes coached by him.
Jurors are scheduled to resume deliberations on Thursday.
Graham touched off the BALCO doping scandal, the largest in sports, when in 2003 he anonymously turned in a syringe containing a previously undetectable steroid.
The 44-year-old Graham has pleaded not guilty to all three counts and has said he is the victim of an attempt to ruin him.
He could face up to 15 years in prison and US$750,000 (S$1.02 million)in fines if convicted on all counts. -- REUTERS
