>I REFER to the commentary, "Myopic parents ruining potential talents" (my paper, July 7), by Mr Chia Han Keong and I agree with what he wrote.
Why penalise someone for his talent?
Isn't it a good thing that the other kids can have someone to compete with and whom they can strive to outdo? This, in some sense, could be a motivating factor for the children.
Instead of trying to provide a smooth path for their kids by removing all obstacles, parents could, perhaps, use this opportunity to observe how their children react to failure.
At the same time, they can provide guidance to their kids on how to handle failure the correct way.
This would help the children in dealing with similar challenges when they grow up and enter the real world.
