South Korea used solid defense to stifle the Japanese team's attack, winning 3-0 to take the women's table tennis bronze medal at the Olympics, the Associated Press reported.
Kim Kyung-ah and Park Mi-young are the top defensive players in the world and their strategy is to let their opponents make mistakes, the Associated Press wrote, and both players returned every shot with a chop, sending the ball in a tricky backspin towards their opponents as it crossed the net.
The Japanese team managed to challenge the Koreans with some strong shots, but were only able to respond mostly by sending shots out of bounds or into the net.
It was reported by the Associated Press that Kim fell to her knees and buried her face in a towel after the last point.
