Singapore's women trio of Li Jiawei, Wang Yuegu and Feng Tianwei went up against China's top rated team in the women's table tennis team final at the Peking University Gymnasium in Beijing this evening.
The team's coach, Liu Guodong only gave Singapore a 10 per cent chance of beating China, according to a report in the Shin Min Daily News.
In the end, China showed their class with a 3-0 win over Singapore.
For the first singles, 21-year-old Feng Tianwei played against Wang Nan, 30. Feng won the first game, 11-9, while Wang took the next three 11-3, 11-8 and 11-6. Final score 3-1.
Li Jiawei played against Zhang Yining in the second singles, with Jiawei only managing to win the first game 11-9. Zhang took next three games 11-3, 11-4 and 11-7.
Incidentally, Jiawei and Zhang were teammates at Beijing's Shichahai Sports School in the early 1990s.
In the doubles, Li Jiawei and Wang Yuegu were up against world no. 1 Zhang and world no. 2 Guo Yue. The Chinese team won that encounter 3-0.

The Republic's paddlers have created history with Singapore's first Olympic medal in 48 years.
On their way to the final, Singapore's women table tennis team had to beat South Korea, the United States, Nigeria and the Netherlands.
