Finally, a medal for Singapore

After 48 long years, a Singapore team will be finally be bringing home the silverware from an Olympics games.

The Republic's women trio of Li Jiawei, Wang Yuegu and Feng Tianwei have done the nation proud by coming in second in the women's table tennis team event at the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

On their way to the final, Singapore's women table tennis team had to beat South Korea, the United States, Nigeria and the Netherlands.

This is the first time that the table tennis team event was included in the games line-up.

It was after the nail biting semi-finals match-up against South Korea that led Singaporeans to dare to dream of the possibility of Olympic gold.

The only road block to that dream - China top rated team, consisting of the World's number 1 and 2 players.

During the finals, China showed their class. And Singapore had to settle for the Olympic table tennis women's team silver after losing 0-3 to the hosts on Sunday night.

So Singapore's dream of Olympic gold will have to wait a little longer.

But the Republic's paddlers are still not done with the games yet, as they will be up in singles action in a couple of days time.

Let's hope their hot streak continues and maybe, just maybe that Olympic gold dream will not have to wait too long.
