Feng out, but Jiawei advances to semifinals

Singapore paddler Li Jiawei has advanced to the semifinals of the Olympics table tennis women's singles.

She beat 34-year-old American Wang Chen 15-13, 11-6, 12-10, 13-15, 11-4 in a tight 52-minute quarterfinal contest.

Jiawei will play defending Olympic champion Zhang Yining of China tomorrow morning.

Singapore's other paddler to make it to the quarterfinals, Feng Tianwei, was defeated by Zhang 11-13, 14-12, 12-14, 10-12, 11-13.

The Republic's other table tennis star Wang Yuegu was knocked out yesterday in the third round. She lost to Dominican Republic's Wu Xue 9-11, 11-9, 2-11, 8-11, 10-12.
