Feng Tianwei: I'll stay in S'pore

Following the imminent departure of Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) head coach Liu Guodong, rumours have been rife that table-tennis star Feng Tianwei might quit STTA to join her mentor.

However, in an interview with Lianhe Wanbao, the 22-year-old had said that she would definitely stay on to represent Singapore in the 2012 Olympics.

Feng's future here was thrown into doubt following rumours that she may follow head coach Liu Guodong, who is leaving Singapore after he turned down a two-year deal offered by the STTA, calling it 'insulting and insincere'.

This sparked speculation that Feng may follow her mentor out. Liu, 34, discovered Feng in 2006, and has groomed her into a champion.

Sources close to the team expressed similar fears, saying that Feng is loyal to Liu, who plucked her from obscurity in Japan's professional league and persuaded her to don Singapore's colours.

According to sources not cited in the same report, Liu also felt that Feng's career would shine if she continued to stay on in Singapore.
