Singapore will host the first World Swimming Coaches Conference from Jan 15 to 17 at the Marina Mandarin.

The International Swimming Federation (Fina) conference will feature a virtual who's who of elite-level coaching.

They include Michael Bohl (coach of triple Beijing Olympics gold medallist Stephanie Rice), Rohan Taylor (coach of breaststroke great Leisel Jones), Mark Schubert (United States head coach), Alan Thompson (Australia head coach) and Norimasa Hirai (coach of breaststroke star Kosuke Kitajima).

Said Fina president Mustapha Larfaoui: "By providing a unique chance for the world's top coaches to share their expertise, we hope that the national federations will find it both interesting and valuable for their training goals."

Over the three-day conference, the invited coaches will speak on the preparation and planning involved in the success of their respective swimmers.

Fina executive director Cornel Marculescu will also be sharing the federation's plan and strategy from this year to 2013. Mr Jeffrey Leow, president of event organiser Singapore Swimming Association, said that he is pleased to be able to host this ground-breaking conference.

He added: "This conference will provide a good insight into the lives of world-class swimmers and is a good opportunity for local coaches to learn from their foreign counterparts."
