PHOENIX: Former NBA great Charles Barkley will serve a drink-driving sentence at an Arizona jail where inmates live in tents and are forced to wear pink underwear, officials said.

Barkley, an outspoken TV basketball analyst, was sentenced to 10 days in jail by a court on Monday after he was arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Dec 31 last year with a blood-alcohol content nearly twice the level allowed under Arizona law.

The 46-year-old will serve his sentence in Maricopa County?s Tent City, an outdoor jail in Phoenix, where inmates are given green bologna sandwiches to eat, besides other requirements.

He was also ordered to attend traffic school and was fined US$2,000 (S$3,050).

He is expected to begin serving his sentence on March 21.
