SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - South Korean defender Byun Sung-Hwan has signed for the next two Australian A-League seasons with Sydney FC, the club said Thursday.

Byun, 29, spent a week trialling with the former A-League champions and scored with a free kick in a pre-season trial match earlier this month, the club said.

Byun spent seven years and made 134 appearances in the K-League, most recently with Jeju United, with whom he played 25 matches in 2008.

Sydney FC said they would finalise their roster with the signing of at least one more player before kicking off their A-League campaign against competition newcomers North Queensland Fury in Townsville on August 8.
