Liverpool knocked out of Champions League

PARIS - Five-time champions Liverpool were knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage on Tuesday.

Despite beating Hungarian side Debrecen 1-0 in Budapest, Fiorentina's 1-0 victory over Lyon in Florence meant the English giants cannot finish in the top two of their group with one match remaining.

Liverpool, who had reached the knockout stages of the tournament in the past five seasons, have won just two of their last 11 matches in all competitions, increasing the pressure on manager Rafael Benitez.

They have the slim consolation of playing in the Europa League, for which they are favourites.
