High time sports bodies cracked down on cheats
Wed, Nov 25, 2009
my paper

A CONTROVERSY is bubbling over French football player Thierry Henry's handball. Also, who could forget Diego Maradona's "Hand of God" - the Argentinian former footballer's unpenalised handball goal in the 1986 World Cup quarter-finals?

How can sportsmen who have cheated sleep well at night?

Does it not prick their conscience for the rest of their lives?

What has happened to integrity?

Where is the professionalism? Is cheating not an affront to people's principles and dignity?

When anyone reaches a certain level of popularity, they have to realise that they have responsibilities, as fans look up to them.

It is high time sports bodies made use of technology to ensure fair play.

Tennis has adopted it - why not football? There is way too much politics in football.

Leading by example is important.

On another note, congratulations on my paper's great new look.

It is appealing and looks more professional.

Well done!
