There are some goalkeepers in the Premiership who have done equally well for many years.

I'm thinking about Brad Friedel, for instance. He is 41 and he keeps producing good seasons.

And I think Jose Pepe Reina - I know he got sent off the other day - is also very good. Ali Al-Habsi. There are so many good goalkeepers, so I won't point to one and say he's the best.

You've defended United goalkeeper David de Gea since the start of the season. Do you feel vindicated now he is turning in superb performances?

YES, I have defended him and relentlessly.

But it doesn't make me happy or anything. What I said then was about how unfairly he'd been treated by the British media.

The guy's only 20 years old. How can you write a nasty article every day? Does it make you happy doing that? Why don't you look at what's there, as I did?

I saw a young lad who has ability. I've seen him play for Atletico Madrid. I've seen him play for the Spain Under-21s.

And I know this guy's good.

But even before he was given time, he got crucified by the media.
