SINGAPORE - A full inquiry will be conducted into swimmer Joseph Schooling's unapproved cap and goggles, promised Singapore's Olympic chef de mission, Jessie Phua.
The 17-year-old had been told minutes before his men's 200m butterfly race that his cap and goggles were not on the approved list of swimwear by swimming governing body, Fina.
He said the incident rattled his nerves and caused him to lose focus, The Straits Times reported.
He clocked two seconds off his personal best and did not make it past the heats.
Ms Phua said the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) will be conducting the investigation.
