KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 (Bernama) - Synovate's Pan Asia Pacific Cross Media Survey 2007 found that affluent Malaysians are leading the way across ten Asian markets in notebook computers ownership with 50 percent.

Singapore, Taipei and Melbourne followed close-by with 49 percent respectively, the global market intelligence company said in a statement today.

The survey, conducted by the global market research company, tracked affluent Asians across 11 markets in Asia Pacific - Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan, India, Australia and Japan.

"More well-off Malaysians have access to the internet this year with an increase of three percent to 68 percent from 65 percent," Synovate said. It said ownership of desktop personal computers was also on the rise across the country's elite at 71 percent compared with last year's 68 percent.

"The increase has directly contributed to a rise in ownership of computer printers and scanners by one percent to 53 percent from 52 percent," it added.

Ownership of the personal digital assistant has declined by one percent to 15 percent from 16 percent, while ownership of mobile phones in the country has risen by two percent to 92 percent from 90 percent.
