A PALESTINIAN who sneaked onto a Singapore Airlines (SIA) plane recently at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) was charged yesterday with trespassing on a protected area of the airport.

Osama R.M. Shublaq, 27, claimed trial for an offence which carries a maximum penalty of two years' jail or RM1,000 ($430) fine.

He was denied bail.

He has been in Malaysian police detention since being deported from Singapore last Friday. His five-day remand order expired yesterday.

Singapore police last week gave a 'brief report' on the incident to their Malaysian counterparts.

On Oct 11, Osama shocked Changi Airport ground crew waiting to serve the Boeing 777-200 SIA plane from KLIA when he fell out of its nose wheel well. The following day, he was charged with entering Singapore without valid documentation.

The charge was later withdrawn and he was deported to Malaysia.

The Malaysian authorities earlier claimed that Osama had entered the country illegally, a contention later withdrawn when it emerged that there was a discrepancy in the spelling of his name.

Malaysia's Transport Minister Chan Kong Choy had also said KLIA security cameras did not pick up any images of Osama. The airport authorities have been ordered to investigate the matter.

Osama is said to have entered Malaysia on a social visit pass that expired on Oct 14.
