JOHOR BARU: A 20-year-old woman has alleged that her husband had repeatedly abused her physically throughout their three-year marriage and had even threatened to circulate her nude pictures should she file for divorce.
The woman, who is four months' pregnant with their third child, said her 25-year-old husband hit and slapped her whenever he wanted sex.
She explained that she could not stand the abuse that had escalated about six months ago when she asked for a divorce.
"His violent streak was not apparent when we first got married but he became increasingly violent through the years The worst was six months ago when he tried to choke me with his bare hands and threatened me with a knife," she said, adding that her husband took nude pictures of her to blackmail her.
She said her husband, an Ah Long in Kuala Lumpur, would often be in a drunken rage whenever he returned to their home here.
She had sustained several injuries on her head, arms and neck as a result of the abuse.
"I am determined to go ahead with the divorce but I need his cooperation for that to happen. However, he is unwilling to divorce me," she said at a press conference organised by Johor Wanita MCA here yesterday.
She added that she planned to relocate her family to her hometown in Selangor to get away from her husband.
She had also lodged police reports against her husband at the Nusajaya police station.
When contacted, Johor Wanita MCA chief Tan Ah Eng said she would assist the victim by negotiating with her husband to give her a divorce.
"We will also give RM500 to help her as she is only a housewife and jobless," Tan said.
Meanwhile, Nusajaya OCPD Supt Abd Aziz Ahmad confirmed the case. He said the matter had been referred to the Johor Baru magistrate's court.
