SINGAPORE - Students starting secondary school in Jan 2013 have a wider selection of programmes to choose from. Crest Secondary School, the first of two new specialised schools for Normal (Technical) students, will admit its first batch of students next year.

Six more schools will offer the Integrated Programme (IP) to Secondary 1 students, announced the Ministry of Education (MOE) today in a press statement.

Crest Secondary School, which uses a hands-on approach to teaching, will also offer upper secondary students a chance to specialise in one of four ITE Skills Certificate courses: Hospitality Services, Retail Services, Facility Services and Mechanical Servicing.

Interested students should apply directly to the school from Nov 22 and 26.

They are also recommended to participate in the S1 Posting Exercise as well, as this allows students to be posted to another secondary school if they are not admitted into the school.

Students who are successfully admitted into Crest Secondary School will be informed via email or SMS by Dec 14, and will not be posted to another school under the S1 Posting Exercise.

Application forms will be available from primary schools when students receive their results, or on the school's website at www.crestsec.edu.sg.

As part of an earlier announced expansion of IP, the six schools offering IP to Secondary 1 students are: Catholic High School (CHS), CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls' School (CHIJ SNGS), Methodist Girls' School (MGS), Singapore Chinese Girls' School (SCGS), St. Joseph's Institution (SJI), and Temasek Junior College (TJC).

The first five schools also offer the 'O' Level programme. The two programmes are marked with different option codes. Parents wishing to select these schools, as well as Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), should indicate which programme they are selecting.

They may select the same school for more than one choice. For example, a parent may choose CHS (IP) as first choice and CHS ('O' Level programme) as second choice.
