Singapore- The second day of The New Paper Wedding Planner organised by Singapore Press Holdings' (SPH) CATS Classified ended with the Kiss and Win contest as the undisputed highlight of the day.
At 1pm, the 19 couples who had registered themselves and their partners earlier for the competition got ready to test their kissing mettle with a series of challenges.
All eyes were locked on them as the couples proceeded to perform the various tasks of the kissing endurance contest. Among the tasks were having to stand on one foot alone and then together without breaking their kiss.
Couples who broke their kiss at any point were immediately eliminated. After slightly more than an hour, Business Development Executive Mr Chen Shichang, 28, and Miss Chow Ching Hua, 23, a nurse, emerged the overall winner.
When asked what their winning strategy was and what was going through their minds during the competition, Mr Chen said: "I just tried to focus and persevere till the end. When I had to stand on one leg, I leaned forward to keep myself steady."
Miss Chow added: "I also tried my best to balance him out when he had to stand on one leg."
Software Engineer Mr Desmond Tan, 29, and dealer Miss Loh Kar Mun, 28; together with national serviceman Mr Goh Yi Keng, 22, and student Miss Soh Hwee, 22, took the first and second runners-up positions respectively.
Mr Tan shared: "I think it is important to trust and understand each other. We used sign language to communicate during the competition."
The winners won cash and prizes from Love & Co. and Royal Plaza on Scotts worth over $5,000. The first-place winners also took home $2,000.
Crowds and interested couples also segued to the comprehensive selection of wedding offerings from exhibitors like bridal boutiques, hotels and other venue providers, restaurants, as well as establishments specialising in jewellery and beauty.
This was due in no small part to the special promotions from various exhibitors, as well as the fact that every purchase qualifies the couples to take part in a Buyers' Draw, where more than $7,000 worth of prizes can be won.
Ring pillows were given away with any purchase, and exclusive goodie bags from Marriage Central were also presented to the first 800 couples who joined Marriage Central's mailing list.
Shutterbugs also got into a frenzy when a stunning bridal fashion show by Yvonne Creative Bridal was showcased at 4pm.
Models donned the latest designs in wedding gowns and evening wear, allowing would-be brides to short-list their preferred gowns easily off the runway.
The same show will be shown at 4pm on Sunday. Besides the fashion show, visitors will be serenaded by local group Acoustic Saturday. It will feature a live band with string music playing to familiar tunes.
Official sponsors for this event are Love & Co. and Royal Plaza on Scotts.
The New Paper Wedding Planner held from 12 to 14 April is organised by CATS Classified and supported by Marriage Central.
