A MOBILE application by leading food website SoShiok.com has been recognised as being among the best entries of this year's Webby Awards.
The iPhone-based food guide was bestowed an Official Honoree title, an accolade handed out to less than 10 per cent of 100,000 submissions from over 60 countries.
The United States-based Webby Awards, now in their 15th year, acknowledge the best of the Internet - from websites and advertising to film and video - and are deemed by many to be the Oscars of the online world.
Other notable honorees in the mobile category include The Ellen Show iPhone app and the BBC mobile site.
SoShiok.com's latest accolade comes hot on the heels of its Silver award received at last November's Asian Digital Media Awards (DMA).
Its iPhone app finished second in the Best In Mobile Media Award (Mobile Publishing) category at the DMA, which is organised by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers.
Launched in May 2010, the interactive SoShiok.com app provides dining recommendations for users on-the-go with just a flick of the iPhone. It also features restaurant and hawker reviews by established food critics from parent company Singapore Press Holdings, as well as from avid foodies from the public community.
SoShiok.com is one of Singapore’s leading food sites, for the past two years it has been ranked first in the Food and Beverage (Lifestyle and Reference) category tracked by online-research specialist Hitwise.
