Samsung is a distant third in the number of tablets sold in the US, with 7 per cent of the market, compared with 28 per cent for Amazon, according to the latest report by research firm ComScore.
Fortune magazine's website reported that for the quarter that ended in January, Apple was still king of the tablets in the US, with 45 per cent of the estimated 57,834,000 tablets there being an iPad.
Worldwide, research firm IDC confirmed that iPad sales were still top of the heap in the fourth quarter of last year, with 44 per cent of sales. Samsung was next with 15 per cent and then Amazon with 12 per cent.
