After performing in Bhutan, all girl rock band Venus Butterfly return to release their debut album
They've been playing all over Thailand and the region for eight years, with regular gigs at Singapore's Bay Beat, but the performance of which all-girl band Venus Butterfly are most proud is the concert they gave for King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan during last year's coronation celebrations.
"It was a real honour to be in Bhutan during last year's celebrations," says bassist Katrina "Katy" Grose.
"We were amazed to get a standing ovation after finishing our show. It was a very emotional moment," adds vocalist Pimluck "Nong" Kamolpechara.
Venus Butterfly also features Jitprapa "Tarn" Maitreejit on drums, Pimluck's sister Nijjagarn "Neng" Kamolpechara on guitar and fellow guitarist Sarita "Orm" Seripukana.
The girls have just released their debut album, aptly titled "The First", on Spicy Disc. They teamed up to write some of the songs of the album and joined up with other popular songwriters for other tracks.
Boy Trai or Zentrady penned "Crazy", "Khid Maak" and "Summertime", Tone Sofa aka Witeshock came up"Muea Rai Rao Ja Rak Kan" and "Yai Tua Rai", Pen-ek Seksan wrote "Roo Bang Mai", "Faak Dao" and ''Due Kor Due", while Nueng Narongwit from "Sleepless Society" was responsible for "Khor". The album is produced by Groove Rider's Notapol "Kor" Srichomkwan.
"I usually write my songs in English then hand them over to a songwriter together with our musical arrangement," says Pimluck. "Kor and I have been pals since I released a first solo album many years ago. He is a good producer who can pull out our individual characters."
