Local getai veteran artistes will pick the best getai newcomer at the STOMP Getai Awards on July 5.
The Most Promising Newcomer award, which was created to recognise and motivate young performers, will be presented to the performer with the greatest star potential.
The event will be held Toa Payoh Amphitheatre from 6.30pm to 10pm and will honour top getai artistes with its theme of "Getai Lives On".
An additional 20 awards will be given out at the ceremony, 10 of which will be presented to the STOMP People's Choice winners.
These winners are the top 10 artistes who garnered the most number of votes from members of public who viewed their performances via videos posted on STOMP.
More than one million votes were cast in total.
Another 10 special awards will also be presented, including, "STOMP Pick: Most Entertaining Act", "Best Costume", "Best Newcomer", "Best Group", "Best Female Host", "Best Male Host", "Most Promising Newcomer", "Most Watched Online Video, "Best Female" and "Best Male".
Admission is free. The event is open to public.
The Getai Awards was initiated in 2006 by citizen journalism website STOMP to preserve the Singaporean tradition of stage entertainers who perform during the annual Hungry Ghost Festival.
