Ladies' Night

THE K-pop boys may be as pretty as they come but they were no match for the Kimchi girls at the 2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) last evening.

Kim Hyun Joong, Song Joong Ki and Super Junior elicited thunderous screams when they appeared to either present an award or perform.

But when the Korean girl-next-door vixens took to the stage, the entire full-house audience threatened to bring the house down.

Girls' Generation. 2NE1. Miss A.

Even A Pink, a seven-member girl group which made its debut just in April, caused chaos when it accepted its award for Best New Female Artist.

More than 7 million votes cast online decided the winners of the 20 over award categories.

Girls' Generation was undoubtedly the stars of the night. The group's rendition of The Boys was met with pandemonium from the very first note, even when the nine babes had yet to appear on stage.

It was odd that the girls were more popular with the predominantly female crowd at the Indoor Stadium.

Female K-pop fans we spoke to admitted that they were "as crazy or even crazier" about the girl groups.

Student Quek Sher Lin, 15, said: "They (Girls'Generation) are so pretty and nice. I want to be as beautiful as them. They are my idols.

"I do like Super Junior, too, but that's a crush. It's different because I think girls often seek out role models." Girls' Generation proved to be a force to be reckoned with when it bagged top honours by winning the awards for Best Female Group and Artist Of The Year.
