Ex-actor Chen Wencong dies

SINGAPORE - Former MediaCorp actor Chen Wencong, 42, died on Wednesday. He was diagnosed with leukaemia late last year.

Actress Ann Kok, who was in local talent show Star Search with him in 1993, sounded distraught when contacted over the phone on Wednesday.

She said: "It's very sudden for me to hear that. I thought he was well, I thought he fought through."

"He's always been very sweet, he used to send encouraging SMSes to me," she added. But the last time she saw Chen was before he found out about his condition.

"I will miss everything about him," said Kok.

Another good friend, actor-comedian Mark Lee, said Chen spent his last days at home. Lee recalled how he worked on two variety shows with Chen, which bagged the Best Variety Show award at the Star Awards in separate years.

"He was definitely a very positive person," Lee said.
