MORE tributes to the late Huang Wenyong are expected at Sunday's Star Awards Show 2.

The veteran actor could win up to three awards - he will receive an Honorary TV Award and he has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes.

Huang, 60, who died of lymphoma last Saturday, will receive the Honorary TV Award to honour his contributions to Singapore's television industry.

He is also a Best Supporting Actor nominee, for playing a brutish father in Channel 8 drama Joys of Life (2012).

His third nomination is for Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste, the only category where results are determined by public votes, and for which voting is still underway.

Huang has been nominated in this category every Star Awards since it started in 1994, although his only win was in 2011.

According to weekly results released by MediaCorp every Monday since the start of this month, Huang made the list for results released on April 1 and April 8.

The weekly results, as well as the final winners' list, consist of online and telepoll voting.

Huang was out of the list for results released on April 15, but made the list again in the latest round of results released on Monday afternoon.

Over the weekend, there were messages on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook asking people to vote for Huang, in the hope that he will win his second and final Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste award.

Voting will close at 8.30pm on Sunday.

It is believed more people voted for Huang after news of his death broke last Saturday night.

Engineer Winnie Tham, 30, cast an online vote for Huang on Sunday and Tuesday, and told her friends to do so as well.

Online voting is open to all Singaporeans and permanent residents with a valid IC number, and they are entitled to one vote per day per category.

"I saw messages on Facebook asking people to vote for him," she said.

"This is probably the last time he can win this award, so I think it's a very meaningful gesture." The nominees for Top 10 Most Popular Male and Female Artistes were derived from votes cast by whose demographics represented that of the Singapore population, said MediaCorp.

These respondents voted from a list of MediaCorp artists with a valid contract within the qualifying period of Jan 1 last year to April 28 .

Financial planner Poh Wei Long, 28, said his parents asked him to vote for Huang.

"They've watched many of his shows over the years, and are saddened by his sudden death, so they hope he can win," he said.

'Deserving winner'
Mr Poh, who cast three votes each for Huang through online and telepoll, said the veteran actor was a deserving winner.

"The fact that he has been nominated every year is proof of how well-liked he is, it's just that his supporters may not be as active in voting for him."

Lianhe Wanbao reported that Huang's funeral was held on Wednesday at 1pm.

The cortege left for Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery at Bright Hill Road and the cremation took place at 3pm.

Eight actors were pall-bearers. They included Zheng Geping, Bryan Wong, Brandon Wong, Zhang Yaodong, Wang Yuqing and Cavin Soh.

Lianhe Wanbao also reported that MediaCorp TV's Chinese drama and variety production teams stopped work on Wednesday afternoon so that staff can attend the funeral.
