Fire broke out at Holland Close

A fire broke out at Block 1, Holland Close at 9.03pm on Aug 4, 2012 where one fire engine, one Red Rhino, one ambulance and two supporting vehicles were despatched to the scene.

A spokesperson for The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Stomp that the fire involved a massive storage of combustible materials such as cardboard sheets, cartons of boxes and newspapers that were stacked from the floor to above chest level.

A contributor to Stomp said the entire block was evacuated and cordoned off.

SCDF brought the fire under control within 40 mins and extinguished it one hour later using two water jets.

The spokesperson said, "It was a challenge for the fire fighters to penetrate the unit to fight the fire. The main door of the unit could not be fully opened and it was difficult for one to walk through the house unimpeded by the mass of combustible items."

SCDF said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

They also said an Indian male in his 50s was conveyed by SCDF Ambulance to Alexandra Hospital for smoke inhalation.
