UPDATE: The warehouse that caught fire on Monday night had stored about 70 barrels (200 litres each) of detergent-based concentrate.
About 40 barrels were damaged because of the fire, causing the detergent to flow out of the warehouse. This might have caused the huge amount of foam.
The SCDF said in a statement that the product is biodegradable and souble in water. They are still investigating the cause of fire.
SINGAPORE - Work to clear up the thick white foam along a canal in Choa Chu Kang is in process.
Several park goers spotted foam stretching along more than 2km of Pang Sua Canal and surrounding park connectors early Tuesday morning.
Pang Sua Canal drains into Kranji Reservoir, and as a precautionary measure, PUB has stopped pumping water from it until the foam is completely cleared, according to The Straits Times.
The affected stretch runs from the junction of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Bukit Panjang Road all the way to Stagmont Ring.
It is believed that the foam was residue from Monday night's fire fighting efforts.
A single-storey warehouse in 800 Upper Bukit Timah Road had caught fire at about 8.50pm. Seven water jets were used to contain the fire which had engulfed three quarters of the building.
Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that the fire was brought under control in two hours.
