Singaporean Olympic medal hopeful, Tao Li, has revealed how knowing that the country is behind her can make the difference between clinching a Gold or Silver at the Olympics.
"You train all your life for a chance at Olympic Gold. The program, discipline, diet and your mentality all play a part in your final performance, but there is another factor - public support. People shouldn't underestimate the added lift that their support provides; knowing that the country is behind me, urging me on inspires me to do better, to push harder and to dig deeper." said Tao Li.
The 22-year-old praised all those who had wished her well and those who openly support her.
She spoke at Changi Airport Terminal 3 this morning as she prepared to set off for the greatest challenge of her life.
She was also greeted with fans and well-wishers who were present to extend their support to Tao Li as she leaves for London.
Tao Li has been admitted to Team Visa, which is a global sponsorship initiative to support promising athletes in their efforts to compete at the Olympic Games.
American swimmer Michael Phelps, Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva and China's Li Na are also part of Team Visa.
In all, there are more than 60 Team Visa athletes this year.
As the London 2012 Olympic Games draws closer, fans of Tao Li will be able to show their support for her through the Visa Go World Global Cheers campaign.
Fans can submit a one cheer click, a photo or a video for their favourite Team Visa athlete on Visa's Facebook page.
