Locals' input vital for new coach to succeed

Striker Aleksandar Duric earned 53 caps over five years with the Lions. The Bosnian-turned-Australian-turned-Singaporean retired from the national team last year. He gives an insight into the five key areas he thinks new coach Bernd Stange should focus on:

Work closely with locals

THE new Singapore coach Bernd Stange has said that he has no intention of bringing in his own backroom staff and I applaud him for this decision.

Coming to a new country, the German will definitely need to work closely with local coaches.

In fact, I hope that he brings a Singaporean on board as his assistant.

Not only will this person be a familiar face to the players, he will also know what to expect from the team - their strengths and weaknesses.

Decide on best team

THERE are less than three months before his first competitive match as Lions coach, so he has to start getting a team together soon.

Follow S-League and LionsXII matches; watch videos from last year's Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup - anything which will allow him to assess the players at his disposal.
