Rising number of m-cycle accidents is worrying
Fri, Jan 11, 2008
My Paper

IT SEEMS to me that the rate of motorbike accidents here is climbing.
Road accidents happen everyday, but it is disturbing to see youngsters who have yet to achieve or experience the wonders of life die on the road.

The consequences of a car-bike collision are usually devastating.

Injuries can be as light as abrasions while the unluckier motorcyclists end up paralysed or even dead.

While the bikers themselves should practise safe road habits, car drivers should play their part too.
They should be reminded that bikers are a more vulnerable group of road users and they are usually the ones ending
up with serious injuries in an accident.

The "Speed Kills" campaign against speeding has left a deep impression on me, but I do not recall any major efforts
by the Land Transport Authority in getting road users to look out for motorcyclists.

I am sure the bikers would appreciate such a campaign.
