Unsolicited 'prize' was an unpleasant surprise

The New Paper

RECENTLY, I received a Diners Club credit card that I had not applied for.

The card was printed with my name, had a full credit card number and an expiry date.

According to the letter, all I had to do was to go to any AXS machine to activate the card.

I was shocked at how a credit card was just sent to me.

When I called up Diners Club's customer service line, I was told that it was because I had entered my particulars in an online lucky draw while using an AXS machine.

That was when I recalled that I had entered a draw while paying my credit card bills via AXS about a month before.

There had been a pop-up message prompting me to enter my details, although there was no information given that it was for a credit card sign-up.

The letter I received stated that the card would not be valid if I did not activate it within a week, but the week has long passed, and I still get SMS messages frequently reminding me to activate the card.

This has been an unpleasant experience, and I will now think twice when paying my bills via AXS.

I do not know if it will send or sell my particulars to uninvited companies.
