I AM writing in to see if anyone is able to help, whether it is the Land Transport Authority or town council or mall management.
It is regarding taxi stands at two places. The first is the one at Jurong Point. I use the taxi stand near boon Lay MRT station (not the one outside the 7-11 outlet).
The latest incident on the eve of Chinese New Year made me write this. I joined the queue and was there for 35 minutes. There were three marked bays for vehicles, all for taxis, I believe.
However, the queue started from the second bay because there was a car at the first bay.
It was about five more taxis to my turn when a woman in her 40s came out from nowhere and stood at the first bay.
When the next taxi arrived and stopped there, she opened the door and some men from the queue shouted at her.
She shouted back: "The taxi stand is here. The queue starts here and the taxi stops here. Please follow the rules."
She shrugged and got into the taxi. I don't blame the taxi driver for picking her up because he wouldn't have known what the commotion was about and she was indeed at the taxi stand.
She was shouting back at a queue that comprised foreign workers, students, children and elderly people. Shame on her.
I have encountered similar problems at the taxi stand at Clementi Central outside McDonald's outlet.
People start queueing from the second or third bay, and those who see the first bay empty may have the misperception that the taxi queue starts there.
But of course, the woman at Jurong Point obviously knew there was a queue and she just wanted to skip it.
I would like to bring this to your attention and suggest that taxi stands should have railings to enclose a queue, with clear enter and exit points.
