MR VINCENT Wong Chung Fatt wrote about the annoying people who stand on the right side of the MRT escalators (my paper, March 12).
I can understand the frustration but why bother asking SMRT staff to educate people on standing on the left?
It will be more effective if you just politely and firmly tell the clueless people to step aside.
If everybody can be brave enough to educate fellow commuters, then this phenomenon will soon become a non-issue.
In the London subway stations, if you stand on the wrong side of the escalator, you will surely be told to move and you will learn your lesson quickly.
This works because everyone, clueless tourists included, stand where they are supposed to be standing on the escalator.
We should not rely on the Government or relevant agencies too much to take the initiative to make Singapore better.
Let?s not have clueless or careless people take advantage of our rights. Let?s educate them by speaking out for ourselves.
