Unwell, but told to give up seat
Tue, Jun 10, 2008
my paper

I WAS still groggy from flu medication when I took the MRT train one morning.

I managed to get a seat and fell asleep on the journey. At Buangkok Station, a woman woke me up - she wanted me to give up my seat to another woman with a baby.

I did as requested, but I also noticed that the woman with the child had a stroller with her, in which she put her bag.

In the eyes of the other commuters, the woman who had asked me to give up my seat must have looked like a hero.

But my question is: Why did she pick me? What about other commuters who were wide awake and had a seat?

Would I be seen as inconsiderate if I decided not to give up my seat, since I was not feeling well?

If I was awake, I would have offered the woman with the baby my seat, as I usually do.
