WAS initially a little worried when I watched the opening ceremony of the 29th Olympics in Beijing last Friday, as the Games have been shrouded in controversy.
But I found myself glued to the television set, spellbound by the rich and vivid displays of Chinese history and culture.
It was obvious that China was out to impress the world with the ceremony, and I must say it did it very well.
From the spectacular fireworks to the booming drumbeats, the ceremony captivated with its magnificence.
The best part of the show was the introduction of the athletes and, for the first time, I could see the true meaning of the Games slogan, "One World, One Dream".
The athletes were representing not only their countries, but also the whole world in unity.
China has come a long way to become a modern country, and I am sure that as the host of the world's biggest sporting event, it will seize this opportunity to showcase its achievements.
As the Olympics continue for the next two weeks, I will definitely be glued to the live telecasts of the many events that have been lined up.
Keep up the good work, China!
