I REFER to the letter "Bad handling of suspicious item in train station".

We thank Mr Erik Cox for being vigilant and taking note of how the unattended item was handled by the staff of Bugis MRT station. Our staff are trained to identify and handle unattended and suspicious items.

Our checks showed that our staff adhered to the necessary procedures and assessed that the item was not suspicious and did not pose any danger to the public before it was retrieved. It was a black poster tube.

Please be assured that SMRT makes every effort to ensure that the safety and security of its passengers and network are not compromised.
