I HAVE been following the reports on the proposed foreign workers' dormitory in Serangoon Gardens.
Many dormitories in my neighbourhood are illegally leased by contractors to house large numbers of foreign workers.
They gather in the carpark and on the pavements of my estate on evenings and weekends, leaving behind litter, vomit, urine, and sometimes even faeces. Residents have had to foot the bill for a cleaner so that the rubbish can be cleared.
We have also had lights installed in back alleys to deter workers from urinating in drains and gardens.
The National Environment Agency has had to bring in inspectors to catch those who litter and urinate indiscriminately.
All these cost money, and the burden is being borne by residents and taxpayers. The authorities do not care because we live in a private estate, and our MP has shrugged off the problem, as we have been told through the press to be understanding and accommodating.
I seek the authorities' understanding. It is one thing to be grateful to these workers for their contribution, and another for taxpayers to have to pay the price for the inconvenience and damage caused.
