Let foreign workers feel they belong
Mon, Oct 13, 2008
my paper

I REFER to the letter, "Reach out and integrate foreigners into Singaporean society" (my paper, Oct 8).

Though we have our cultural differences, on a basic level, Singaporeans and foreigners are human beings who have the same sense of right and wrong.

We talk about being a gracious society; here is an opportunity for us to practise our social graces.

It would be good for Residents' Committees to organise activities to welcome foreign workers to the neighbourhood.

If they feel a sense of acceptance and belonging, they will be less likely to misbehave and will try to conduct themselves properly.
