Mumbai attacks show the need for vigilance
Tue, Dec 02, 2008
my paper

I CANNOT agree more with Professor S. Jayakumar, who said the tragedy that befell Ms Lo Hwei Yen could happen to any of us (The Sunday Times, Nov 30).

The Mumbai terror attacks have shown, once again, that terrorists have no qualms about killing innocent people
to serve their selfish ends.

Such attacks could happen to us anywhere and at any time. We must remain vigilant and be on our guard at all
times.

We must not take things for granted, as this will allow individuals to cause devastation to lives and property.

In short, we must never allow ourselves to become vulnerable to such incidents.

The current Bangkok turmoil is also a cause for much concern, especially for Singaporeans who go there for business or holidays. We must be careful because unexpected events may yet happen.

So, unless there is an urgent need to travel to Thailand, it is better to avoid the country, at least for now.
