Govts must take greater care to stop future attacks
Fri, Dec 05, 2008
my paper

I AM sad and outraged by the events in Mumbai that have killed and injured so many people.

What happened to India is correctly labelled as its "9/11".

After the attack on America's World Trade Center on Sept 11, 2001, other countries should have learnt the importance of being more vigilant against terror attacks.

There is a famous Chinese proverb: "It's easier to avoid a gunshot in the day than an arrow shot in the night."

Besides condemning the terrorists for their cruel actions, the Indian government and its security forces must also be held responsible for their failure to prevent the heinous crime.

I urge all governments and security forces to be extra careful from now on.

After what happened in Mumbai, everyone will learn that if we do not stay vigilant, more such attacks will happen around the world.
