Be proactive: Make others give up seats
Thu, May 28, 2009
my paper

I REFER to the letter, "Give up train seats to others in need" (my paper, May 26).

Why complain when you see people in priority seats not giving up their seats to those who need them more? Do something about it instead.

When I see an old woman who needs a seat, I would go up to a person in a priority seat and request that he or she give up the seat.

I have done it a few times and, so far, no one has declined my requests.

So the next time you see someone who needs a seat, approach those in the priority seats for help.

My mantra is "Be proactive, not reactive".
