Regulate pet groomers
Mon, Nov 09, 2009
my paper

WITH more pet shops opening and dog ownership on the rise, the authorities should regulate the pet-grooming industry to ensure the safety of animals placed under the care of groomers.

Pet owners can then check the credentials of groomers.

At present, there is no system of centralised certification - this lack of regulation may attract unqualified groomers to the industry.

In the aftermath of a case of a dog dying after it was hit by its groomer, the authorities should enforce stricter standards to ensure the professionalism of groomers.
