Raise penalty for monkey feeders
Mon, Dec 14, 2009
my paper

I REFER to the news item, "Monkey stuck in CBD" (my paper, Dec 11).

The monkey may be a sign that more are going to the Central Business District (CBD) waiting to be fed.

Monkeys have been spotted in housing estates. This is a consequence of the feeding of monkeys by an irresponsible minority.

Despite moves to raise public awareness on the danger of feeding monkeys, the $500 fine is not enough to deter culprits, judging from the fact that 24 feeders were fined in the last month alone.

The National Parks Board should consider imposing heavier penalties on feeders.
