The names of numbered avenues, streets, drives or lanes usually have the estate or area indicated first.
For instance, it is Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1, Bishan Street 11, Pasir Ris Drive 1, and Lim Chu Kang Lane 1. These are indexed under A, B, P and L, respectively in directories.
But when it comes to lorongs, this changes. In Toa Payoh, if you are to look up Lorong 1, it is under L and not T. That is because the official name is Lorong 1 Toa Payoh.
This makes it inconvenient for those referring to directories. And it doesn't help that the name is not used consistently by all.
There are buildings with signs that say "Toa Payoh Lorong 3" and "Toa Payoh Lorong 5".
If all addresses are indexed in the same way, with the nam eof the estate followed by avenue or street or drive or lane as the case maybe, they will be easier to find.
For the sake of convenience and consistency, the authorities should consider streamlining the official road names in Toa Payoh.
Let us have Toa Payoh Lorong 1 and so on, so that all of them will be listed together under T.
