THE GOLFING world will lose one of the greatest female golfers when Annika Sorenstam takes a break from the game at the end of the season.

But there is no shortage of talented rookies waiting in the wings.

Nine rookies from both Team International and Team Asia are making their presence felt at the Lexus Cup this week.

Except for Team International's Christina Kim and Team Asia's Ji Eun Hee, the other rookies have won at least one match.

Team Asia may have six rookies, twice as many as Team International but they have held their own after two days of competition at the Singapore Island Country Club.

Kim Song Hee, 20, is one of the rookies from Team Asia to have impressed so far, winning both her foursome and fourball matches.

Yesterday, the world No. 36 partnered vice-captain Sarah Lee to a 4 and 2 win over Karen Stupples and Christina Kim.

Kim has yet to win her maiden LPGA Tour victory but she came close twice when she finished second at the Corona Championship and the Samsung World Championship.

The South Korean is not the only rookie with a perfect record at this year's event.

Team International's Katherine Hull (below) also shares the honour.

The 26-year-old Australian teamed up with compatriot Nikki Campbell to a one-up victory over Team Asia's Tseng Ya-ni and Namika Omata in the final fourball match yesterday.

'Nikki kind of carried me on the back nine and we did great. We are happy that we finished it off out there,' said the winner of this year's CN Canadian Open.

Team Asia's Park Inbee and Ji may have lost their match against Sorenstam and Suzann Pettersen yesterday but they could take heart from their performance.

At one point, the South Korean duo were two up before Sorenstam and Pettersen rallied back to win the match one-up.

With the score precariously balanced at 6-6, the rookies need to keep their composure in the singles competition today.

Team Asia captain Pak Se Ri is confident that her young charges will deliver the goods.

She said: 'The six rookies are doing really well. The team format is new to them, but they are capable of handling the pressure.

'I have a lot of confidence in them.'
