Abandoned by monsters, cared for by pet lovers

SHE not only takes in abandoned dogs, but housewife Sabrina Peng now has a three-legged one to care for.

She has so far taken in five dogs in eight years.

Two months ago, Mrs Peng, 30, and her husband adopted Sugee, a 1-year-old mixed breed that lost one of its hind legs in a hit-and-run accident.

A lorry had run over the dog, a stray, and dragged it for some distance along the road.

She adopted it under the adoption drive organised by Pet Lovers' Centre and Action for Singapore Dogs Society (ASD).

With her wealth of experience in taking care of dogs, cats, hamsters and gerbils for the last 12 years, Mrs Peng knows how to take care of Sugee's needs.

She had to stay up the first night she took Sugee home, sitting by her side and reassuring her because the dog was nervous and frightened.

But it was a small sacrifice to make, said Mrs Peng, who is pregnant with her first child.

'We believe in adopting abandoned dogs because we think it's so unfair that these dogs were ditched the moment it becomes inconvenient to care for them.'

Another 'adoptive mother', marketing executive Eunice Ng, 32, and her husband, Mr Hengky Wihardja, 31, are practising their parenting skills with Bambi.

They are planning to have a child in the near future.

The three-month old puppy was found in a carpark in Bishan Park.

Under the adoption drive organised by Pet Lovers' Centre and ASD, the women will get $100 vouchers from Pet Lovers' Centre to purchase pet food and accessories.
