Dream comes true for Reds' fan

The New Paper

WHEELCHAIR-BOUND, he has not been able to stand on his own two legs for the last six years.

But at the sight of Liverpool FC players Dirk Kuyt, Albert Riera, Martin Kelly and Emiliano Insua up front and close, Muhd. Idham was so excited that he struggled out of his wheelchair, using the yellow barriers separating him and his football idols to painstakingly pull himself onto his feet.

You see, Idham, a 20-year-old diehard Liverpool fan, was born with Morquio's syndrome - a disease that has left him with a compressed spinal cord and dwarfism, heart problems, and a speech impediment after surgery in 2002.

His physical condition may keep him off the playing field, but it does not stop him from dreaming of visiting Anfield one day - a dream he got one step closer to realising at yesterday's The Kop Comes to Singapore adidas VivoCity Event.

Said the spunky fan, who proudly donned a red LFC jersey at the event: 'I wish I could play football. My No. 1 wish now is to go to Anfield.

'I'm very happy to meet the players today, but it's sad that Steven Gerrard isn't here. Maybe I'll fly to see him some day.'

Idham, a student at the Management Development Institute of Singapore who is studying for his 'O' levels this year, was accompanied by his 61-year-old father, Ruslan Japar.
