FURTHER humiliation is set to be heaped on the Indonesian celebrities who are at the centre of the sex tapes scandal.

The National Police have said the three will be subjected to body and dental examinations.

The three involved in the scandal are Peterpan frontman Nazril "Ariel" Irham, 28, and TV stars Luna Maya, 29,and Cut Tari, 32.

EMBROILED: Indonesian TV star Cut Tari is believed to be in one of the sex clips.

National Police Medical Chief Brigadier-General Musaddeq Ishaq told Metro TV that the trio was scheduled to undergo the tests at the National Police's Laboratory and Forensic Centre yesterday to prove whether they were the actors featured in the graphic sex clips.

The National Police arrested Ariel on Tuesday on charges related to the sex video, Jakarta Globe reported.

Former Peterpan band members Andika and Indra also appeared before the police on Tuesday as witnesses.

"The investigators showed us the sex videos but I am not sure if that was Ariel," Andika was quoted as saying.

Police said they also suspected that Ariel had shown the films to his friends to boast about his sexual encounters with "several women", the Globe said in the report.

A number of people welcomed the arrest.

Mr Amidhan, the chairman of the Indonesian Council of Ulema (MUI), told Jakarta Globe: "The damage has been very serious.

This is a threat to our children.

"If we tolerate this, we are letting society become more and more permissive. Surely this is dangerous."

Meanwhile, the police also indicated that the two women may also be arrested and charged.

"We are confident that we can charge them," National Police chief of detectives Ito Sumardi said of Luna and Tari. "There must bean article to charge both of them."

"If you have extramarital sex and then the public finds out about it, then you should be punished, right? It's simple logic.

"Even though the videos were not distributed with this intention, the fact is the videos were widely circulated. It is not magic.

"We suspect Ariel showed the videos to his friends because he felt proud after having sex with several women."

He also noted that Ariel's partners in the videos knew he was making the movies.

They consented to it and they were not under the influence of drugs, he added.

The Indonesian police said they would detain the two television starlets after furious Islamic extremists threatened to do it themselves.

Rather than promising to defend the stars' homes or arrest the radical extremists making the threats, police said they would detain Luna and Tari for their own protection.

"The reason is not simply to arrest them but to protect them from mass organisations that are furious," Mr Sumardi told reporters.

The clips have been widely shared among Indonesia's 40 million Internet users, stirring a raging debate about Web freedom and fuelling calls for tighter controls on information technology, AFP reported.

The controversy took an ugly turn on Tuesday when about 1,000 Islamist extremists rallied in central Jakarta to demand that the stars be publicly caned or stoned to death for adultery.

And yesterday, the Islamic Defenders Front -a vigilante group known for its unprovoked armed assaults on liberals, transsexuals and nightclubs ? threatened to attack Maya and Tari unless they were arrested within three days.

"If police fail to arrest them, we will locate their houses and drag them to the police headquarters for detention," group chairman Habib Salim Umar Alatas told AFP, adding that hundreds of militants were standing by.

"Their acts have insulted Islam and will have a bad impact on the morality of our young generations," he added.

Meanwhile, Indonesian music expert Bens Leo said Ariel and his band should stay strong despite the controversy.

Ariel and his music group had been scheduled to launch their new name and album next month but the plan has been delayed.

"The support from the Peterpan members is very important for him," Bens told Kompas.com.
