KUALA LUMPUR - Singer Siti Nurhaliza has a new look.

Just back from Mecca where she performed the Muslim pilgrimage, the 28-year-old Malaysian star sported a black headscarf on Sunday night at the birthday party of celebrity Chef Wan.

She went on the haj with her husband, mother and brother on Dec 13 and returned on Dec 27.

Fans have expected her to cover her head after returning and, on Sunday, she turned up with husband Datuk Khalid Mohamad Jiwa, 48, wearing a loosely draped headscarf for the first time.

'Thank God, for the time being, this style is my image and this headscarf was specially designed by (Malaysian designer) Bernard Chandran. I have a few more similar headscarf collections,' Malay daily Harian Metro yesterday quoted her as telling reporters.

And fans can expect to see more of her covered-up look in future. 'I guess this is the best image, to cover up. With God's blessing, I will continue to wear a headscarf in the future,' she added.

That will also be her look on Jan 27 when she attends the Anugerah Juara Lagu (Champion of Songs Awards) at Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur.

'At this moment, I'm not sure how my headscarf will look, but what's definite is that I will be covering my head,' she said.

She admitted that her new look would spark gossip. But she said she would not let that deter her as her gesture 'comes sincerely from the heart'.

She said she needed to take 'the good change' slowly and that her businessman husband supports her in her decision.
